Smart Meter
Smart Meters are a new way for Malaysians to get their meter readings for a better energy experience.
A Smart Meter is a device that records your electricity usage and communicates this information automatically to TNB via radio-frequency waves for monitoring and billing. They read your daily energy usage and provide more accurate bills for a smarter, greener and more energy efficient future.
Smart Meters are not new. They have been implemented in first world countries such as in the United States of America, United Kingdom, Japan and China. Malaysia is proudly the first country in Southeast Asia to implement this Smart Meter technology country wide.
No more waiting for your bill in the mailbox as the Smart Meter records your electricity use, and automatically sends your meter reading directly to us through a secured network. You can view your bill through the myTNB App or myTNB Portal anytime, anywhere.
Smart Meters will be able to show your daily and monthly home electricity usage, through the myTNB App. This information puts you in control of your energy usage and to become more energy efficient.
Saving energy will not only benefit your wallet, but it will also impact the environment. it is a win-win! With Smart Meters, it is easier for you to track your electricity consumption and make changes to your energy usage.
Stay on top of your monthly usage by setting up your Energy Budget on the myTNB App and monitoring your energy consumption. You will be alerted when you are reaching your budget threshold and help you be more mindful of your energy consumption.

ENERGY EFFICIENCY LABEL
Introduced in 2006, energy efficiency labels are issued by the Energy Commission to manufacturers of electrical appliances who comply with the standards and requirements of energy performance tests. Energy efficiency label shows us the estimated energy consumption of an electrical equipment based on a star rating system - 5 star means the most efficient,1 star means the least efficient. With the star ratings, we can estimate how much electricity (kWH) the appliance consumes!
When we’re looking to buy an appliance, look at the label! There’s information on its energy consumption that will help us choose the most efficient model. 5-star appliances are most efficient and will:
•save money in the long run.
•reduce carbon footprint created by electricity generation
•improve the quality of your life
MALAYSIANS' RESPONSIBILITY
An uncluttered fridge allows cool air to circulate more efficiently.
Ensure all electrical switches, including your fan, lights, and air conditioner, are turned off first before leaving the house on the weekends
Clean air con filter to save more. And sweat less. Keeping air conditioner filter clean keeps it running efficiently by allowing more cool air to flow out.
Ensure not to overload the electrical socket to avoid the risk of a short circuit. Don’t forget to turn off the switch when not in use.
Prioritize the safety of oneself and family while at home.
Shut the doors and windows when using the air conditioner to cool the room faster.
Draw curtains and blinds to let in as much natural light as possible to help save on internal lighting costs.
Energy-saving light bulbs consume less energy and last longer.
Air conditioners consume a lot of energy. Setting the temperature between 24-26°C provides sufficient cooling, while keeping energy consumption down.
Setting a timer on air conditioner is a smart way to manage and save energy. It is not needed for air conditioner running all night to stay cool. Try setting it to switch off a few hour after falling asleep to be more energy efficient.
