In this page, we will briefly explain to you about our journey to execute our community engagement project. From the initial planning stages to the final execution, we will share our experiences, challenges, and key takeaways. This includes how we developed our action plan, collaborated with different groups, engaged the community, and measured the impact of our initiative. Through this journey, we aimed to create meaningful awareness and encourage sustainable practices among students.
"Collaborative Sustainability Awareness Programme"
To make the programme more engaging and impactful, we collaborated with another group to organize a Sustainability Awareness Programme called 'THE GREEN SHIFT: TRANSFORMING OUR FUTURE' that attracted many students. Each booth focused on different sustainability concerns, such as energy consumption, water conservation, and waste management.
To enhance participation, we incorporated interactive activities at every booth. Some groups introduced online games, while we set up an additional playgame station at the corner. Here, participants had to answer random questions based on what they had learned from all three booths to complete the round. This added a fun and competitive element while reinforcing knowledge.
As a token of appreciation, we provided popstick freebies to all visitors. To keep track of attendees, a QR code was available for participants to scan and record their visit.
This collaboration not only made the programme more exciting and interactive but also successfully attracted more students, making sustainability education both engaging and memorable.
"Our Programme Story"
Organizing this programme was an exciting yet challenging journey for our team. Since it was our first time writing a proposal, we had to learn the proper format and submission process. We collaborated with PRESSS (our society), which added another layer of coordination. Our initial proposal required resubmission due to some corrections, and we faced another hurdle when we found out the venue was almost fully booked. Fortunately, our class advisor stepped in to assist with the booking, allowing us to proceed smoothly.
To ensure the event’s success, we held meetings to divide responsibilities efficiently:
One group designed posters and a social media thread to promote the event.
Another group managed the venue setup and ensured all necessary facilities were available.
A third group handled the proposal and documentation, ensuring all paperwork was complete.
Our preparation began a month before the event, with different teams working on their respective tasks. However, due to the approval process, we could only start promoting the event two days before. The last few days were particularly stressful, but thanks to our programme advisor's support, we secured final approvals just in time.
Despite these challenges, the experience was incredibly rewarding. As Bioscience students, we felt a strong responsibility to raise awareness about sustainability among our peers. Seeing students engage in our activities and learning from the event made all our efforts worthwhile. We hope this programme not only benefited them but also strengthened our own understanding and teamwork skills.
