Organizing this project has been an eye-opening experience, allowing us to explore sustainability while actively engaging with our university community. From the initial planning stages to executing our awareness campaign and booth, we encountered both challenges and rewarding moments that helped us grow as a team.
Awareness Campaign on Social Media
Our week-long TikTok campaign was a crucial first step in spreading awareness about energy consumption. While we were excited to share educational content, we quickly realized that engaging students online required creativity and consistency. Through trial and error, we learned to present information in an interactive and relatable way, making complex sustainability topics more digestible for our audience.
Booth Experience & Community Engagement
The on-campus booth was the heart of our initiative, allowing us to directly interact with students. We designed interactive activities like quizzes with Jenga to make learning fun, and we were thrilled to see 86 students actively participate. Seeing their curiosity and enthusiasm reassured us that small efforts can spark meaningful conversations about sustainability. However, we also faced challenges, such as last-minute adjustments to the venue and ensuring enough materials for all participants. Despite this, teamwork and quick problem-solving helped us navigate these hurdles smoothly.
Key Takeaways & Personal Growth
One of the biggest lessons we learned is that raising awareness requires more than just sharing information—it’s about making connections and inspiring action. Through this project, we gained valuable skills in event planning, collaboration, and adaptability. Additionally, as bioscience students, we feel a sense of responsibility to promote sustainability and ensure that our efforts leave a lasting impact.
Looking ahead, we hope that this project serves as a stepping stone for more sustainability initiatives on campus. While this may be just the beginning, it has reaffirmed our belief that small steps can lead to bigger changes.
