Tim Klingler hell yes! So much misinformation. How about making sure you are retracting, your larynx can move without tension, your tongue is out of the way and you are anchoring effectively.
For instrumental musicians who have been assigned to teach voice, charts like this help us explain what to do without getting into the weeds. Certainly there is a way to help students learn how to sing safely and more correctly without having studied voice pathology. What would you suggest? Not asking with snark, I truly want to help my students. I find they all follow the current pop trend- pull chest voice as high as possible and then flip into a very weak upper register. These suggestions seem to be a reasonable to try to start bridging the gap.
