Art is a popular choice for students at Bishop Challoner School. GCSE Art & Design is taught from Year 10 onwards. 

The work in the exhibition comprises a selection of pieces from our Year 9 and 10 students, our current Year 11 GCSE group and our former Year 11 and 13 cohort.

Identity is the overall theme that our GCSE students are inspired by and engage with, partly through an exploration of portraiture. The exhibits include examples of portraits students have created in the style of artists they have been influenced by. The artwork our students create at all Key Stages often illustrates their diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

This year we are exhibiting some of the Year 11 and Year 13 exam work from last year. The Year 13 work exhibited is based on the 2023 exam theme ‘Simple and Complex’. The Year 11 exam theme was ‘Lock’. Students explored a diverse range of artists' work to inspire and inform their practical outcomes.  

Students at all Key Stages actively seek inspiration from artists’ work as a departure point to develop their own ideas, techniques and handling of materials.
