Introducing the notion of Aesthetics of Care (AoC) when teaching sustainability studies and/or sustainability related modules, might be an appropriate way to rethink the role of technology(ies) in human development. Such an approach is a valuable opportunity to reconsider the way we produce, and consume, not just the objects we interact with but also our perception of reality in such a moment of ecological and social crisis. We propose a game-based Teaching Training Programme (TTP) for technological higher- education to assess work, behaviour and choices of the participants. We tested three games that could be used to introduce participants from different backgrounds to mobilise the ideas of AoC and Regenerative Sustainability (RS) within their practices, by encouraging teamwork, critical thinking and self-evaluation. This is part of one of the games.
The Emotionally Durable Desing Nine, was produced by Merryn Haines-Gadd, from the School of Architecture and Design, University of Brighton, UK, and adapted by Santiago PEREZ, from the Univertsity of Technology of Troyes and member of the European Culture and Technology Lab from the EUt+.

Hello, welcome and thanks for being here.
This is an interactive audio installation called from emotions to sustainability.
I am Santiago Perez, a researcher from the University of Technology of Troyes in France, and a member of the European culture and technology lab from the European University of Technology. But most importantly, I am the host of this piece and my voice for the next minutes will be guiding you through a reflection about you, the objects around you, and how your feelings and emotions could make those objects more sustainable.
I want you to choose an object, your favorite object or one of your favorite objects in the world. It could be something that you own, it could be something that you borrow, it could be something that you rent. Before you go too far, think if that object can be considered a product, and if so, do you know who designed it?
Anyway, it could be an object that is not in the market, like something that you or someone that you know created for your personal use, or maybe it could be something that was part of the market but that has been discontinued. Size doesn't matter. It could be a complex object or it could be a simple one. What is important is for you to focus on your feelings towards that object. How does it make you feel when you are around it? Now, you are going to describe briefly to each other that object.
Focus on how the object makes you feel when you touch it, when you see it, when you think about it, the feelings and emotions it produces when you interact with it. And just remember that thinking and imagining the object is also a kind of interaction. Take a couple of minutes to describe it to the person in front of you.
Once you finish, please listen carefully to the description of the object chosen by the person who is in front of you.
This should be an intimate moment between you two.
I would say the person with the prettiest eyes should start.

I hope you had a lovely time sharing with each other your favorite objects and the emotions that they evoke to you. Keep them always in mind as I will guide you through 9 reflections regarding you and your objects.
There is a spinning wheel in the screen, don't touch it yet!
Within the wheel, as you can see, there are 9 categories. We'll go one by one in due time.
So this is how it works:
You will click in the center of the wheel to make it spin.
The wheel will randomly assign a category.
Then you go to the category section below the spinning wheel and you click on the one that was chosen by it.
You listen to the audio, then you share with each other your thoughts about it and how they relate to your specific objects.
And by the way, once the category is selected, please click on remove, that way you take it out from the next spinning session.
Again, to make it easy, let's say the person with the prettiest right thumb will spin the wheel and start sharing.

How can we build a relationship that is emotionally rich and enagaging between products and users?
How can we build integrity, both the physical integrity and emotional quality into the product?

Okay, so just a quick reflection of what we did today.
Emotional value given to objects really enable actions of care towards them. From us, of course, the users. Taking care of those objects make them last longer. This is pretty common. Those objects become then subjects of care in our lives. So if we translate that into the design practice, it means that design objects with an emotion value proposition could potentially extend the longevity of the product. Objects that are designed and made to last longer, so you can repair them, you can upgrade them, you can adapt them, they transform and adapt to your needs, are most, in most of the cases, are more sustainable. When those objects become subjects of care, we tend to care about the relationships of those objects with the other objects around them and their environment.
