Many universities/colleges have made the decision to go test-optional. Test-optional means that you have the choice to submit/not submit your SAT/ACT scores. If you choose to not submit your test scores, it will not negatively affect your application. To learn more, visit the university/college freshman admissions website. Although each test varies by subject and length, it is recommended to take both tests at least once, if possible, to determine which test you score better on. This will allow you flexibility in selecting your highest score and sending the score to the university or scholarship you're applying for.
