Do I need to give all of the Student Growth Assessments? 

To fulfill the state requirement, only one of the student growth assessments must be given. The purpose of the assessment is to show student growth related to one Student Learning Target (see the Learning Target resources) during the school year. However,  because the assessments focus on Student Learning Targets, it may be beneficial to use more than one to determine students' progress towards the Targets.

When do I need to administer Student Growth Assessments?

Each assessment has a unique timeline. This timeline can be found in the provided Elementary Student Growth Monitoring document for each assessment. The goal is for each assessment to be given at the beginning, middle, and end of the teaching cycle for the assessment topic.

Can I change questions on the Student Growth Assessments?

Yes. The questions can be changed to fit your grade-level team's unique needs. However, the rigor of the assessment should remain similar to the one provided. If there are any problematic questions, please contact a Teacher Fellow  so that the problem can be corrected.

How were the Student Growth Assessments Designed?

The Student Growth Assessments were designed by the Curriculum Teacher Fellows. The goal is provide at least one assessment for each Student Learning Target so the teachers can assess how well students are progressing toward mastery on that Student Learning Target.

Can scores on Student Growth Assessments be used as grades?

Yes. Teachers are encouraged to use the middle and end assessments as indicators of student growth.  However, it would not be appropriate to use the test given before the teaching cycle, the pre-test, as a grade or to average the scores received on the middle and end of teaching cycle tests.
