Simple Audio Recorder is a Google Chrome extension that does just what its name says. It records audio in a quick and easy way. One click and you are recording audio immediately. Once you are done recording, it automatically downloads a .wav file. This is probably best used in schools that incorporate laptops or Chromebooks for their student devices.
The benefits to including audio recording in the classroom are that it can bring up the level of student engagement (Rossiter, Nortcliffe, Griffin, & Middleton, 2009). Students can benefit from audio recordings from the teacher and from making their own recordings (Rossiter, Nortcliffe, Griffin, & Middleton, 2009). When a student listens to a teacher recording it can be of the lecture that they already attended and the more something is heard, the more likely it will get to the student’s long-term memory. Not only is listening to recordings great but so is creating their own recordings because they will want to plan out what they will say so they do not sound bad when they do make their recording.
This can also be used to help differentiate because some students will learn great through hearing, while others do great with visual learning, some will do great with hands-on learning as well.
