Traditional classrooms are great for students that are the “traditional” student. I did great in school and we did not really have much in terms of technology. And I graduated from high school only fifteen years ago. Not all students are “traditional” students. This means that many students are going to feel left out and become disengaged to where they do not want to be there. Technology can adapt to each students learning styles and interests, making it so that all students are given their best chance to learn and be as successful as the next or the “traditional” student.
This does not mean that media and technology are always successful in the classroom. They have to be engaging but also informational. Kahoot for example is a great tool, but it can really encourage students to rush to answer to earn the most points but when they rush they can get it wrong and then be discouraged, stop caring about answering correct at all because they cannot “win”, and in the end, quit playing all together. Another ineffective way media is used in the classroom is by just not monitoring student use. If they go un monitored, they could be doing anything on their technology. They must be monitored!
As mentioned before, one benefit to using technology is the fact that all students can be reached through its use. It can also help make the educators job immensely easier and anything we can do to make our jobs easier is an amazing advantage.
I feel like saying that technology can assist in meeting technology standards is a bit redundant but the content standards are the more difficult one to accomplish but there are technology tools that can help any teacher in any content and there are tools that can help any teacher in specific content areas.
My experience is with a tool similar to SAMR and because of this I think it is a great way to implement technology. Both SAMR and TPACK are great though and I really think that both could be used in tandem. Using SAMR to implement the technology, but TPACK to focus on the content as well as pedagogy. TPACK will also bring in knowledge of technology and content.
