EDIT 2000 is an interactive course that introduces students, particularly pre-service teachers, to standards of International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). Students will focus on creating meaningful learning opportunities and collaborative learning environments using technology. The picture on the right will give you a general idea of the technology that we will explore in this course.
On the right is a web 2.0 version of Bloom's Taxonomy. Take a look at it, it can give you a general idea of educational technologies that we're going to explore in this class.
After this course, students will be able to:
The purpose of our course is to prepare future teachers to use technology with students to support empowered learning, digital citizenship, knowledge construction, innovative design, computational thinking, creative communication, and global collaboration.
No textbooks are required. All readings will be provided by the instructor.
Throughout the semester we will discuss your progress in the course. This may be achieved through email, meeting appointments, and during class times. You will be given sufficient class time to get started on assignments and ask questions. Assignments are due at 11:59 PM on the due day unless otherwise indicated.
All students will have opportunities to earn Late Passes during the semester. A Late Pass has following two uses:
I will start grading in the next morning of the due day. A temporary zero will be placed on the grade book if students missed the deadline. If the students submit the assignment within 48 hours after the due day, 80% of the points will be given for that assignment unless the students used a Late Pass (see more details for Late Pass policy). If the students failed to submit the missed assignment within 48 hours, a permanent zero will be placed for that assignment. If you have a special or emergent situation, please inform me ASAP.
If you turn in an assignment on time and didn’t receive a full grade, you may resubmit the assignment within 48 hours after the grade is published in ELC. The group assignments and presentations are not eligible for resubmission.
Participation and attendance are worth 10% of your overall grade. However, 100% of your grade is affected when you do not attend class or participate - as it will be difficult, if not impossible, to catch up on missed work. Miss scheduled demonstrations or in-class projects seriously compromises your learning.
You are permitted to miss three classes without penalty. If you miss five classes, the highest grade you can earn for this course is a 90%. Missing more than six classes may result in a WF for the semester. I do not wish to be in the position of judging whether an absence should be excused or not. If you miss class, for any reason, you will be marked absent and it will count against your participation and attendance grade.
Attendance will be taken by the instructor at the end of each class. You will be counted absent if you leave class early (unless the entire class is dismissed). The course instructor reserves the right to assign a penalty to the participation and attendance grade for excessive tardiness.
Trust me, I know how to search on the Internet too.
All academic work must meet the standards contained in “A Culture of Honesty.” Each student is responsible to inform themselves about those standards before performing any academic work. The full version of “A Culture of Honesty: Politics and Procedures” detailing UGA’s policies on this matter can be found here.
If you have a disability and would like to request accommodations, please feel free to discuss this with me. All individuals receiving accommodations in the classroom must be registered with Disability Services. Please visit their website at http://www.dissvcs.uga.edu for further information.
