Most of us use Google tools to search, send email, and write collaborative papers. Google has a school-focused resource called GAFE (Google Apps for Educators). You can also follow their YouTube channel to get more information. We don't have access to a university-wide GAFE account, but you are likely already using most of these Google tools on your own. For this task, you'll learn how Google tools are used for educational purposes and then create your own example of a student learning activity using one or more Google Tools.
I use Google Maps all the time to find my destinations. But have you ever think about using Google Maps as an educational tool? Can you think of ways to use Google Earth in classrooms? Check out those resources to explore ideas.
Google provides free blog platform which is called Blogger. Blogging as an effective way to improve students' writing skills has been widely accepted. However, when students are blogging online, how can we take advantages of the online platform? Check out resources here and think of ways to use Bloggers in K-12 classrooms.
You might be surprised to see how many teachers are using YouTube content in their classrooms. YouTube has an educational channel that generate most popular educational videos across YouTube everyday. Think about what kinds of YouTube videos you'll use for your classes.
I only listed four tools as examples, but GAFE actually includes all apps that you can use with a Google account, such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Hangouts, etc. So your options are not limited on this page. A full list of Google tools can be found here. Explore those tools and think of a learning activity that would use one or more Google tools.
Create a Google Slides presentation to share information about your activity include an activity title, grade level, subject area, learning objectives, and explain what students will be expected to do. Create an example of what students will do in the activity (i.e. Form, Blogger post, YouTube video, etc.).
You will use a screen-cast software to record your presentation. Screen-cast-o-matic is a free tool that you could use to record and share your presentation online. You may be visible or not visible, but the presentation has to have an audio & visual component since you are presenting your work online. You can publish your video to YouTube or on Screen-cast-o-matic website.
