Ecclesiastes 9:13-18
Wisdom Better Than Folly
13 I also saw under the sun this example of wisdom that greatly impressed me: 14 There was once a small city with only a few people in it. And a powerful king came against it, surrounded it and built huge siegeworks against it. 15 Now there lived in that city a man poor but wise, and he saved the city by his wisdom. But nobody remembered that poor man. 16 So I said, "Wisdom is better than strength." But the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are no longer heeded.
17 The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded
than the shouts of a ruler of fools.
18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war,
but one sinner destroys much good.
Solomon teaches us that wisdom is better than folly...He saw an example of wisdom that greatly impressed him...There was a small city with on a few inhabitants...A powerful king surrounded the small city and built a huge siegeworks against it...A poor wise man in the small city saved the town by his wisdom...But nobody remembered the poor man...This shows wisdom is greater than strength...But it also shows that the power and fame of a king are remembered more than wisdom...But the small town won their war...So the words of the wise are to be heeded, more than the shouts of the rulers of fools...Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but a sinner destroys much good...
Many wise and good men do good and use their wisdom wisely and in the end are not remembered by other men...But the power of wisdom is to be heeded over the rants of rulers, because God listens and never forgets...He is Almighty and the Wisest of all, because He knows all, and never forgets...The wise man at times must do good, and that is his reward knowing God is watching always listening and always remembering...
