You Are The Artist and the Art B H. McGill
I have been drawing and painting all my life. My earliest recollection of my creativity was when at aged about 5, I won a drawing competition run by a Melbourne TV station.
I made art my career in Perth, Western Australia as a graphic designer and jewellery artist, until family and kids kind of interrupted that and for a few years I was not terribly focussed on art.
Since 2004, when I took up my brushes and paints again I have enjoyed the journey in becoming a successful artist and I am grateful to the collectors throughout the world who have supported my practice.
So, here is my artist statement which explains how I see the world and my artistic interaction with it. :)
My art practice is a simple reflection of my personality and as any artist, I am constantly inspired. I always think about art and the different ways I can deliver an interesting and consuming image. The simple joy of paint is the route that connects the viewer to my vision.
Drawing inspiration from the natural world I paint with intense colours to illustrate a vibrant and magical realm, representing the collision of our natural desires and empathy for our environment. I continue to develop a style which is authentic and instinctively sympathetic to the randomness of landscape.
The creative process of painting is uncomplicated for me, I don’t over-think it and yet the activity is essential to my wellbeing. I love things which are varied, challenging and beautiful. I don’t respond to uniformity and minimalism.
The combination of human judgement and technique is exciting and rewarding, so I aim to achieve layers of interest in my work through the use of colour and different media. My work constantly evolves. I am always willing to take the risks which I feel are necessary for growth and change.
