David Ssevviiri (Mak) and Amanuel Mamo Senbato (AAU) both members of the EAALG have won the prestigious CoRE-Math Fellowship at Uppsala University, Sweden. They are scheduled to visit Uppsala University later this year.
David Ssevviiri has been invited as a plenary speaker at the Rings and Polynomials Conference which is scheduled for July 14-19, 2025 at TU Graz, Graz, Austria. Several members of EAALG will also participate. For more details, see, integer-valued.org/rings2025/index.html
Several members of the EAALG participated in the ICMS workshop in Algebra and Geometry for Africans in Edinburgh which took place at the Futures Institute in the period May 5 - 16, 2025, see the photograph below.
David Ssevviiri was invited to speak at the LMS Seminar on the UK/Africa Partnership which was scheduled for Wednesday May 14, 2025 at Edinburgh in the UK.
Lukas Bertsch from the University of Vienna, Austria visited the Department of Mathematics, Makerere University for a period of two weeks beginning April 7, 2025. During his visit, he gave a series of lectures on some topics in algebraic geometry.
A PhD student; Tekalign Regasa Ashale from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia is visited Makerere University for a period of 2 months beginning April 3, 2025.

There is a two year (Effective October 2024) Austria-Uganda (one of the Africa-Uninet projects) project in Algebra and Geometry which will among other things enable mobility of staff and students, a series of lectures and workshops both in Uganda and Austria. Partner departments in this project include mathematics departments at the following universities: 1) from Uganda; Busitema University, Kabale University and Makerere University; 2) from Austria; Graz Technical University and University of Vienna.

Several EAALG members participated in the Inaugural African Women In Algebra Workshop which took place in the period July 1- 6, 2024 at Kabale University
Celestin Kurujyibwami is visiting ICTP in Italy for a period of one month beginning 6th June 2024.
David Ssevviiri participated in the ICTP school on Number Theory and Physics of June 17-21, 2024 and a follow-up workshop of June 24-28. The two events took place at ICTP, Trieste, Italy.
On June 19, 2024, Caroline Namanya defended her PhD thesis entitled, "Pure Braids and Group Actions from 3-fold Flops" supervised jointly by David Ssevviiri and Michael Wemyss.
In June 2024, professors Michael Wemyss from the University of Glasgow and Will Donovan from the Yau MSC Tsinghua University, Beijing; visited the Department of Mathematics at Makerere University. Michael gave a talk on ``Differentiation of noncommutative functions" and Will gave a talk on ``McKay correspondence and toric geometry".
On March 5, 2024, Brian Makonzi successfully defended his PhD thesis at Makerere University which is entitled, "Computing the Artin Component using Reconstruction Algebras". Caroline Namanya is visiting the Simons Laufer Mathematical Sciences Institute (SLMath), formerly the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI), University of California Berkeley for three months effective 1st February 2024.
The Department of Mathematics Makerere University is hosting two PhD students from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia for a period of three months beginning January 2024. The two PhD students are: Biadiglign Asmare and Amanuel Mamo Senbato.
In February 2024, Luijah Maturu graduated at Makerere University with an MSc degree entitled, "On the Irreducible Representations of the Symmetric Groups S_6 and S_7. Luijah was supervised by Bernardo Rodrigues, David Ssevviiri and Alex Behakanira Tumwesigye.
Makerere University hosted Professor Miles Reid for three weeks beginning 7th July 2023. During this period, Professor Reid taught a course in Algebraic Geometry to EAALG members.
Dr. Dominic Bunnett visited Makerere University for 2 months beginning August 2023.
In July 2023, PhD students Brian Makonzi and Caroline Namanya attended the GAeL workshop at the University of Warwick, United Kingdom.
Teklemichael Bihonegn, a PhD student from Addis Ababa University visited Makerere University for a period of six months beginning July 2023.
In June 2023, Dr. Annet Kyomuhangi participated in the Pragmatic 2023 workshop about cohomology and Frobenius that took place in Catania, Italy.
EAALG members (Alex Bamunoba, Annet Kyomuhangi. Mahadi Ddamulira and David Ssevviiri) are involved in the organisation of Women in Uganda - Sage Workshop.
In May 2023, Prof. David Ssevviiri visited University of Vienna, TU Berlin and University of Amsterdam. He he gave a talk in Vienna about the locally nilradical, reduced modules and the MGM Equivalence , and was a speaker at a symposium at the University of Amsterdam.
Dr. Geoffrey Mboya visited Makerere University in Aug 2022 and gave some lectures about graded rings.
Dr. Dominic Bunnett visited Makerere University for a period of 2 months: June - July 2022. During his stay, he taught Algebraic Geometry to graduate students.
