We are a group of people who like to go Bicycle Touring. We wish to see NSW Trainlink transport more bikes per train and the requirements to box bikes dropped in favour of roll-on roll-off self service. This would also allow bikes, including e-bikes, heavier than the current 20 Kg weight limit to be carried.
New trains for Regional NSW to replace the XPT, Explorer and Endeavour trains are being trialled and fitted out but are unlikely to be in service for a number of years. We understand some of these trains will be roll-on roll-off, with no boxing required, so we are seeking that this be introduced on current trains now.
Bicycle Tourism is booming, with new rail trails and country circuits springing up. NSW Trainlink can play a big part in boosting regional economies by carrying more bicycles more easily.
