Conceptual Designs

As part of my creative practise, I'm always open to new softwares and new adventures with designs.

Selected here are a variety of designs showcasing new softwares that I have used and learned for different briefs and conceptual designs that are being taken forward by other teams and specialists or was used by myself as a way to further my own design practises and abilities.

This page is arranged earliest to latest and will be updated regularly.

Resil - Resilience Game Concept

University of Dundee -

School of Education Commission

Resil - a Game of Resilience was a conceptual design commissioned by the School of Education at the University of Dundee. With a focus on building the confidence of new students as they work in groups, I went with a conversational-style game with mini games best suited to the brief's ideas. The steampunk/fantasy aesthetic was wholly chosen by myself as I wanted to encapsulate that idea of "stepping into a new world" that university often brings.

This was a placement that took place over several months of meetings and trials and the blog I wrote about it an be found here and the video walkthrough can be found here.

Adobe Aero - Book Filter

As a part of my Digital Coordination job, I decided to undertake software exploration for "Plastics: Remaking Our World" for the V&A Dundee.

One approach was making use of Adobe's Aero, a beta application to make augmented reality entertainment. For this, I took one complex graphic and exploded it into its individual materials that could then be analysed further. This added an extra layer to the learning and was considered a possible "wow" moment for consumers if taken forward.

Spark AR - Plastics Concept

Working with the same theming as Plastics, I was also asked to approach this from a younger perspective. This was mainly due to my work with the learning team and our demographic.

With this in mind, I designed and created a filter using both official (shown left) and unofficial designs that could be utilised over our social media. I kept the filter bright and cheerful to appeal to a younger demographic and ensured the colours would pop on all skin types and tones.

If taken further, this could be part of tours or for a larger "what plastics do you use" filter game. However, it was decided that it was too joyful for the seriousness of the topic.
