Co-design
Co-design
Given the conclusion of our research - toddlers and children generally do not face difficulties that they cannot overcome with regards to learning multiple languages. A meeting with our case owner resulted in us reaching a decision to design something that aids the travel experience of the family. As such our design challenge was formulated: Creating an independent form of entertainment, for a 4-6-month-old child, during long travels.
In the co-design session we wanted to get an good insight of the travel days. We did this by asking the mom to fill in the schedule of a normal day, a travel day by car and a travel day by plane. She filled it in like the best case scenario, things could change --> like the feeding time. See the results below.
To get an idea of the colors and the aesthetics that the product needed to have, we led the mom make a pinterest board. From this you can get that she liked the not to bright colors, for her it are the more pastel tone colors. We also asked her what she would like, she indicated that she liked the aesthetic of wood en the color light bleu. Pictures of the pinterest board can be seen below.
Below are the toys that where already at the house. Some of the toys are in the pastel colors that the mom likes. The toys that are not, where bought by the baby's grandparents. What the mother indicated was that the baby mainly likes the hanging threads with the balloons, this is self-crafted by the mom. Furthermore, from the the co-design session came that the baby kicks a lot so maybe it is an idea to make something also for his feet.
When traveling, there is always one parent with him in the back of the car, this is pure for entertaining. They have a camera pointed at the baby which can be seen by the driver for when one parent travels with the baby. The car has a glass roof and he likes to look out so maybe we could make something which can be attached to the roof of the car (a sticker maybe).
Here the baby in the maxi cosy in the car can be seen.
Other things that we got from the co-design session.
For the baby something is nice that:
Makes noises
Is colorful (he can see colors from now on)
Something with different textures (he likes soft things)
He puts everything in his mouth
For the parents:
Something of wood
Aesthetic calm pastel colors (light blue and brown)
They like the toys more for childhood development
No screen and no electronic things
The baby should be able to play with it without needing their parents (something that he cant throw away? But no robe--> unsafe)
For the plane something small as possible is requested. In the car it needs to be save to use (also on the plane), with heavy things he could for example hurt his head.
