RC Countdown

RC Countdown

Design pretty much specifically for radio control model boat racing, this mode 'announces' the countdown rather than using horns and flags.

So, these a few things you need to be aware of:

  • Can only be used for single fleet, single start races
  • Design for a single class, so no handicap is applied
  • No rounding to the nearest second is applied, so there are no draws (timing to 10th second)

To control the countdown, the app uses a text file with the format:

  • Time[space]Text (example 1:00 60 seconds to start)
  • Where there is just Time and no Text, the a RC style horn is sounded ( example 0:00)

You can create your own countdown file, download it to your device, but it needs to be placed in the apps /files/ area, and be named DSRC_Countdown_sounds.txt, or you can let the app create the file using inbuilt defaults, and edit it via the Settings Screen under Edit RC Countdown info (but you will have to enable Debug additional info first). Don't worry, it's harder to describe than do :o)

See panel for snapshot of default countdown text within app editor

One thing to note - The Google Text To Speech (TTS) seems to take a few second to initialise after the app displays the Race Screen... This shouldn't be a problem, unless you press Start immediately after entering the Race Screen (doesn't crash, just might miss or cut short the first announcement)...
