Pursuit - Staggered Starts

'How to' - Prepare and run a mixed fleet staggered start pursuit race.

Application - Clubs that runs pursuit races that involve a number of staggered starts based on class handicaps.

  • App Settings

    • Race Type - Set to Pursuit

    • Pursuit race duration - Set length of race in hh:mm:ss (note this can also be set via the clock icon on the Race Screen)

    • Pursuit start interval - Select required interval (60 seconds/30 seconds)

    • Pre-Start delay - Set at your required value (0 means no pre-start) (we use 10secs for racers to get to their watches)

    • Starting Sequence - Set at your required sequence (5min, 4min, 1min, Go/3min, 2min, 1min, Go/Custom)

    • Sound - On if required (green tick mean On, red cross mean Off)

  • Pre race preparations

    • As with all races, the first thing to do is define who is in the next race. This is normally achieved via the Competitors Screen, but also via the Race Screen.

    • If you already have your competitors defined, then it's a simple matter of making sure those 'racing' are selected (highlighted), and checking there details

    • If you have nothing yet, then use the ADD button to create an entry for each competitor (creation automatically selects them)

    • Pre-Race planning can also be achieved by Admin via the Race Screen:

      • Race planned duration (via 'clock' button, or Options)

      • Race Start Interval (via Options) - This is normally 60 seconds, but can be 30 seconds if required

      • Zero start class, if there are to be advance starts, as well as delayed ones (via long press on class)

    • Default is for the race to be based on the slowest class (highest handicap) taking part.

  • Race start

When planning is complete, app displays:

      • Planned race duration

      • Planned number of starts

      • List of classes taking part, there planned start number, and their associated delay +/- of start zero

Race duration can be edited via Options, or by pressing the 'clock' button

Race Start Interval can be set via Options (60s or 30s)

Zero start class can be set/unset/changed via long press on class

Press START to commence any pre-Start, and then main start sequence.

Long press countdown clock to abort start sequence (there is a confirm on this)

  • During race

If sound is on, additional to the normal start sequence events, there will be:

      • - delay starts will be announced at 30 (or 20) secs to go

      • + delay starts will be announced at 30 (or 20) secs to go , and countdowns at 10,5,4,3,2,1 secs

      • End of race announced at 1 min, 30 secs, and countdown at 10,5,4,3,2,1 secs

      • Lap times can be captured by pressing racers entry

      • On completion of race duration, capture any final positioning, and press END for result calculations

      • Race (once started), can be abandoned via options (there is a confirm on this)
