Multiple Fleet - Rolling Starts

'How to' - Prepare and run a Multiple fleet, rolling starts race.

Application - Clubs that runs multiple fleet races that involve rolling start sequences

  • App Settings

Via the Settings Screen, under Race/Starts, check :

    • Race Type - Set to Multi-Fleet, rolling starts

    • Pause between starts - Set as required (None/Pause between ALL starts/Pause ONLY an General Recall)

    • GR Restarts - Set as required (Next Start/After other starts)

    • Pre-Start delay - Set to your required value (0 means no pre-start) (we use 10secs for racers to get to their watches)

    • Starting Sequence - Set to your required sequence (5min, 4min, 1min, Go/3min, 2min, 1min, Go/Custom)

    • Sound - On if required (green tick mean On, red cross mean Off)

    • Optionally you can also:

      • Countdown sound - Select from Beeps/voice/None , which sound/announce at 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

      • Additional Voice prompts - On for announcements at 30 second intervals, plus one at 20 seconds to each signal

      • Second ticks - On for a 'tick' every second during countdown (except last 5 seconds to Go)

Tip - Settings are save when app is exited, so if you run the same sort of race every time, then the App Settings only need doing once :o)

  • Pre race preparations

    1. As with all races, the first thing to do is define who is in the next race. This is achieved via the Competitors Screen.

    2. If you already have your competitors defined, then it's a simple matter of making sure those 'racing' are selected (highlighted), and checking there details

    3. If you have nothing yet, then use the ADD button to create an entry for each competitor (creation automatically selects them)

    4. Check Fleets Screen to ensure the selected fleets are assign to the required start order (long press fleet entry to edit)

Tip - If you make a mistake, or need to change some detail, then a 'long press' on a competitors entry will allow you to edit their details

  • Race start

From the Race Screen:

    1. Check all racers are selected (hopefully you did this already :o)

    2. Check the Race number (under START button) is as required (if not pop back to Main Screen and use -/+ to adjust)

    3. Check Pre-Start and Start Sequence (under Race number) are correct (if not pop to Settings Screen and set as required)

    4. Press 'START' to commence Pre-Start (if any), and then planned Start Sequences

Tip - If you need to Abandon/Postpone ALL starts, then long Press countdown clock and confirm Abandonment/Postponement

Once each countdown reaches zero, a pop up will offer you:

    • ALL CLEAR - Press this to confirm 'all is well' and ready to commence timings capture

    • Individual Recall - Start ok, but one individual (or more) was 'over the line' and will have to come back

    • General Recall - Too many to be identified correctly are over the line, so restart this start

Note - If pop up on last planned start isn't responded to in approx 48s, app assumes ALL CLEAR, and switched to timings mode

  • During race

    1. As boat pass the timing mark. Capture their lap time via a single touch on their entry in the list

    2. If you press the wrong boat, then first press the correct one, and then Long Press on the wrong one, and then 'LAP-1'. Note - If 'Undo' option is active, the last entry pressed will have a marker against it, and a second press will undo the previous timing capture

    3. If you need to assign a 'code' (e.g. DSQ), the Long Press the boats entry, select the appropriate code, and confirm

    4. As the lead boat rounds the last mark before the finish, you can press 'Finish Open' to enable horns as you capture their finish time

    5. Once all boats have crossing the finish line, press 'END' and confirm. This will set off the corrected time and final position calculations

Tip If AutoSave is active (see Settings Screen), then the result will be saved straight away.

  • Post race

    1. If AutoSave wasn't active, then you may want to press 'SAVE' to store the race results. It also gives you immediate access to formatted results

    2. If you need to edit the results, you can:

      • Edit each competitors details via a Long Press on their entry (examples - change finish time, or remove/assign a code)

      • Edit the race number via a Long Press on the Race number

If you do edit anything, the app background will change, display 'Edited' in the title area, and re-enable the 'SAVE' button

Once you have finished reviewing/saving the race results, pressing 'RESET' will set everything back to the pre countdown position ready for the next race :o)
