Exhibit 8

The Sky is the Limit

Background:

  • The point of this exhibit was to utilize some of the skills I have learned throughout this course. I also wanted to put to the test some of the methods of design we have learned about in our class readings.

  • Revision: Based on critiques I received, I decided to crop the image and to move the text over underneath the image.

Photoshop skills used:

  • Hue/Saturation adjustment mask was used to enhance the colors, as well as change the hue

  • Brightness/Contrast adjustment mask was also used

  • New layer for the stars to be placed within the hair

  • Quick Selection Tool was used to select the subject in order to make a mask

  • Mask was used so that the hair became the galaxy

  • Type was used to add a level of variation and interest

Design:

  • Contrast: I used a stark contrast in the image by having dark and intense colors against an off white in the background. I also used contrast by having a very large image with fairly small print.

  • Repetition: I repeated colors throughout the composition. I also had a repeat of organic lines and geometric shapes.

  • Alignment: I wanted to align the type to the right, in order to sort of mimic a signature.

  • Proximity: I kept the type close to the image so that people are immediately aware that the statement is tied to the image.

  • Font Choice: The font is Adobe Handwriting. I chose it because it resembled a signature look, and the lines were more organic, which fit with the lines in the drawing.

  • Color Choice: I used warm colors to represent determination and passion.
