Exhibit 1

Education

Background:

  • For this exhibit I wanted to convey the benefits, and importance, of receiving and education.

  • Revision: Based on the critiques I received, I have changed the size of the image. I have also added a mask in order to cover some of the background. This, to me, adds interest and contrast.

Photoshop skills used:

  • I started with the background photo in camera raw. I enhanced the colors, warmed the shadows and lessened the contrast

  • I then transferred the image over to Photoshop. Here, I sharpened the focal point and blurred the empty space

  • I created a new layer for each line of type

  • Lastly, I adjusted the font type and the opacity with each

Design:

  • Contrast: I used contrasting values to make the lights and the word 'education' stand out, as well as making 'education' a stronger looking font.

  • Repetition: I used similar calligraphic type on several different lines to tie in the organic shapes of the wire and reflections of light.

  • Alignment: I used the rule of thirds to guide my placement of the lightbulb and the wording.

  • Proximity: I made sure to keep all of the wording close together so that your eye sees it as one unit.

  • Color Choice: I wanted to keep the colors light and warm in order to convey a fondness for learning.

  • Font Choice: I wanted to connect the type to the photo in some way. I accomplished that by using the calligraphy type to tie in to the shapes the photo created. I wanted the word 'education' to be a second focal point, and so I bolded the word and made it less transparent.
