Exhibit 9

Head in the Clouds

Background:

  • To utilize the tools learned in Photoshop lessons in order to create a poster.

  • Revision: I removed the white borderlines because it brought too much attention right to the edge of the composition. I also raised the opacity on the girl. I lowered the text, as well as making the lines of the text closer together.

Photoshop skills used:

  • Various adjustment layers to enhance color intensity

  • Paintbrush strokes with brush tool to add texture to the clouds and assist in blending with the photo of the girl

  • Text layer to add interest and a second focal point

  • Masking and blending layers in order to combine the clouds and girl seamlessly

Design:

  • Contrast: I actually wanted fairly little contrast in this portfolio piece. However, I wanted the words to stand out. So in order to do that, I made the font white, along with utilizing two different fonts in order to create some contrast.

  • Repetition: I repeated a certain brush stroke throughout the composition in order to add a sort of interest but also a form of continuity.

  • Alignment: I used a strong left alignment so that the words and the line down the left side added structure to an otherwise very organic image.

  • Proximity: In order for all the pieces of the composition to relate, I put the lines close to the words and let the words draw your attention to the face and the clouds.

  • Font Choices: Adobe Handwriting, All Round Gothic

  • Color Choice: I wanted to use warm colors in order for it to be inviting to the viewer. The oranges and pinks remind me of feminine qualities which matched the quote and the face.
