My fascination towards typography, glyphs and graphic designing dates back to my school days, when I saw the fonts being produced in an old Remington ribbon typewriter with its characteristic sound (most of the current generation would not have seen a typewriter!). The esoteric art of calligraphy which I learnt myself added fuel to the fire. I started looking at modern methods of typesetting and graphic designing. I laid my hands on the book "THE METAFONT BOOK: by Donald Knuth", in this book he explains about the history of typesetting and how people produced glyphs, symbols and how customisation of symbols were done for various languages and thereby led to the development of fonts, both mathematical and non mathematical.
Finally playing around with Microsoft word from 1998 to 2004, I came to know about the LATEX typesetting system around 2005 by reading the classic book of Leslie Lamport titled "LATEX-A Document Preparation System". After I started doing things in LATEX, I realised that LATEX is a big ocean and one can spend an entire life and in fact several births diving in it exploring the subtleties of LATEX.
Many think that LATEX is for producing mathematical documents only, but I am afraid, those who think like that are completely wrong. In fact, LATEX is a complete system of typography for producing anything you want.
