Dr. Manoj K. Nayak
Senior Principal Scientist, Materials Science and Sensor Applications (MSSA)
CSIR-Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, Chandigarh - 160030
Email: mknayak@csio.res.in
Received his M.Sc in Chemistry (Specializations in Organic and Biochemistry) from Sambalpur University, Jyoti Vihar, Odisha, India in 1998 and a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry from Indian Institute of Kanpur (IITK), India in 2004. Dr. Nayak has vast experience in the field of material chemistry and biotechnology. He has eight years of international postdoctoral research experience at the National University of Seoul, South Korea, the University of Victoria, Canada, Texas A&M University, Qatar, and McGill University, Canada.
During his postdoctoral research, he worked on Sol-gel chemistry, thin-film formation and characterization, luminescent probes and Turn-on/Turn-off fluorescent sensors, novel metathesis block polymers for bio-detection and control release applications, and the heterostructure nano-catalysts to improve the visible-light-driven photodegradation performance of organic pollutants and photocatalytic reaction kinetics. Currently, he is working on magnetic-graphene-based ion exchange resins that can be regenerated again and again through recycling. It also reduces cost because it removes the need for large resin stocks. At the outset, he is also working on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP) as molecular recognition materials able to mimic natural recognition entities, such as antibodies and chemical/biological receptors.
He has published more than 38 peer-reviewed journals, 4 book chapters, and one patent to his credit. He has executed three projects of national importance. He has produced 3 PhDs and 22 M.Tech/M.Sc/B.Tech dissertation/internship and currently 6 PhDs are under active supervision.
