1. The biggest myth is that the Coronavirus is just a hoax. The Coronavirus outbreak is a global pandemic that has affected virtually every country in the world in one form or another. Over 23 million people across the globe have been infected and over 1, 000,000 people have died from COVID-19-related caused. And among the world’s countries, the United States has the highest number of deaths, now over 210,000. The virus is very real.
2. Another myth that has been circulating is that young people can’t get the disease. Records have shown that a huge percentage of COVID-19 patents are people between the ages of 20 and 40. And while they personally might not be hit as hard, they can spread the corona virus to older relatives and friends or immunocompromised individuals. While some of the infected individuals are asymptomatic, there are young people in hospitals who cannot breathe without a ventilator. High risk individuals in this age group do exist. In addition, asymptomatic individuals can still spread the virus.
3. The last myth concerns wearing masks. Some people claim that wearing masks does nothing to prevent the spread of the disease. But the truth is, wearing a mask is probably one of the best ways of fighting the spread of the disease. According to Dr. Matt Boente, M.D., wearing face masks can limit the capacity of an infected person of spreading the disease to only 1.5 percent. And because it’s almost impossible for people to identify infected people just by looking at them, everyone should wear face masks when going outside.
