It may come as a surprise to many people who don’t know him all that well that Dr. Matt Boente MD, a key figure in the cervix and endometrial cancer screening task force of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), is also a huge Chicago Cubs fans. Once in a while, he loves to share added information about the baseball organization he has loved all his life.
On that note, Dr. Matt Boente MD shares a few more interesting factoids about the Chicago Cubs.
• Due to the number of incredible baseball talents coming into the Windy City over the decades, Chicago has two baseball teams – the Cubs and the White Sox. The Cubs are called the “North Siders” because of the location of their home, Wrigley Field. The White Sox are the opposite.
• The Chicago Cubs are the first MLB team to play in 3 straight World Series championships and are the first team to ever win the World Series twice, in 1907 and 1908.
• The Chicago Cubs’ recent World Series victory is their first World Series win in 107 years. It also marks their first National League win in 70 years.
• Today, people know the Chicago Cubs’ mascot, Clark, a young bear. However, before Clark came along, the team’s mascot was Ronnie “Woo-woo” Wickers, a Cubs fan who always screamed, “Woo!”
• When a fan mentions “White flag time at Wrigley,” which is something Dr. Matt Boente MD loves to say, they mean the Cubs have won.
Dr. Matt Boente MD is a big fan of the Chicago Cubs and has a passion for the multiple facets of medicine, including health economics. For more on Dr. Boente, visit this page.
