The Philadelphia Water Department is the public water utility for the City of Philadelphia. PWD provides integrated potable water, wastewater, and stormwater services for Philadelphia and some communities in Bucks, Delaware and Montgomery counties. PWD is a municipal agency of the City of Philadelphia, and is seated in rented space at the Jefferson Tower in the Market East area of Center City, Philadelphia.
In my 5 month tenure at the water department, my job as an Engineering Aide I is to surveying an assigned geographical or residential location, assisting in conducting environmental or traffic studies, researching architectural or drafting records as technical support to engineers and architects or performing a variety of support tasks for an engineering operation. Work includes maintaining conventional and electronic survey equipment and records, or tracing sketches, draft plates, maps, plans, and architectural and engineering drawings, or investigating complaints related to traffic conditions. Work may include continuing to develop skills in the use and applications of computer aided drafting and design (CADD), equipment for drafting efficiency and accuracy and utilizing personal and/or mainframe computer terminals for data entry and retrieval related to a designed task.
