The Benefits of NJROTC

To those thinking of joining the Doherty NJROTC, or already enlisted Cadets who want to know a little more about what it brings you, here are some bonuses that being an NJROTC Cadet can give you:

Physical Fitness

NJROTC promotes the well-being of others through its physical requirements. It helps others get in shape, which is essential no matter what career choice you choose. NJROTC can help you reach better physical condition almost as well as any Sport that Doherty offers, without the constant stress and worry of being perfect.

Moral / Ethical Support

NJROTC teaches its core traits with utmost precision. Those traits being Honor, Courage, and Commitment. NJROTC focuses on ensuring each and every cadet can enjoy their time in the Unit. We respect each other, encourage each other, assist each other, and never leave each other behind. NJROTC will attempt to work with anyone and everyone who requires assistance. We offer schedules that avoid conflicting with other school or outside activities. We ensure every Cadet has a chance to prove themselves. We ensure every Cadet has a chance to improve themselves. We ensure every Cadet feels safe and welcomed in the Unit. In the Doherty NJROTC, we follow a lot of codes, rules, and restrictions. All with one purpose in mind; that every Cadet can have fun, feel safe, and be proud that they were in the NJROTC.

Graduation Requirements

NJROTC offers as a class to help with graduation as well. Each school is different in how many credits an NJROTC program can fulfill. At Doherty, NJROTC fills three specific credits.

Physical Education - Taking all Four years of NJROTC will act as 1 credit of P.E. It may not seem like much, but it cuts off a whole semester worth of P.E. you have to do.
Humanities - NJROTC acts as a Humanities Credit highly, 1 Credit every semester you take.
Elective - Taking extra classes such as the Drill Class can act as a Elective Credit, which takes up half of the credits needed to graduate.

Scholarships

NJROTC is known for the scholarships it can provide to colleges. Having a solid (good participation, teams, high grade, etc.) NJROTC background can give a ROTC scholarship in college. Even more so, having an NJROTC background can give a very good chance of being chosen for Military Academies. Add that with a personal recommendation letter from the SNSI, and you've got a near-guaranteed entry to any military academy.

Military Bonuses

Participating in the NJROTC program gives every cadet that chooses to join the military an immediate promotion. A straight promotion of E-3 (two promotions) in the Navy, and a single promotion in every other branch. These promotions will give pay raises from $200 to $400.

NJROTC also teaches many factors you will see in Basic Training (Boot Camp), making you all the more prepared.

Preparation for Life

NJROTC prepares every cadet to the road that approaches. With High School being the last stop before full adulthood, NJROTC prepares its cadets in manners that could be essential to life. These include:
