Standard 8 - Collaborative Relationships - The competent teacher builds and maintains collaborative relationships to foster cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social and emotional development. This teacher works as a team member with professional colleagues, students, parents or guardians, and community members.
8S: Participates in the design and implementation of individualized instruction for students with special needs (i.e., IEPs, IFSP, transition plans, Section 504 plans), ELLs, and students who are gifted
Once a month, teachers are required to fill out a student performance profile for certain students that have either an IEP, IFSP, 504 plan, etc. As a student teacher, I filled some of these out for my students who may have one of the things listed above. Feedback is provided in these profiles such as academic strengths/weaknesses and behavioral strengths/weaknesses.
8J: Works with all school personnel (e.g., support staff, teachers, paraprofessionals) to develop learning climates for the school that encourage unity, support a sense of shared purpose, show trust in one another, and value individuals
Every Wednesday morning while I was student-teaching, department meetings were held before school. I attended these meetings to help myself understand the importance of collaborating with colleagues as well as working together as a department to provide the best learning environment for students.Â
