After optimizing and texturing your 3D model in Sketch Up, the next essential step is exporting it to the GLB (.glb) format – the official standard used by VR 4 Life. Blender is a free and powerful tool for this final process.
The FBX (.fbx) format is an excellent bridge between ZBrush and Blender (or any other 3D software). It reliably transfers geometry, UV maps, and sometimes even texture and material information.
Go to ZPlugin > FBX ExportImport.
Enable the following options:
Export UVs
Export Textures (if baked or applied)
Export Polypaint (if used)
Click Export and save the file as .fbx.
Open Blender.
Go to File > Import > FBX (.fbx).
Select and import the .fbx file exported from ZBrush.
Check After Import:
Geometry is intact.
UVs are correctly mapped.
Textures may need manual reconnection in Blender's Shader Editor, depending on how they were exported.
Materials & Textures: Use Blender’s node-based system to refine your materials. Ensure that Normal, Roughness, and Metallic maps (if any) are correctly connected.
Scale: Adjust your model’s scale to fit VR 4 Life's environment accurately.
Triangle Count: You can check this via:
Viewport Overlays > Statistics
or Object Properties > Viewport Display > Statistics
Once your model is ready:
Select your object.
Go to File > Export > glTF 2.0 (.glb/.gltf).
In the export window:
Format: glTF Binary (.glb)
Include: Check Selected Objects (to export only your selection)
Images: Choose Copy to embed all textures into the GLB file
Click Export glTF 2.0 and save your .glb file.
GLB is the ideal format for VR 4 Life because:
It’s compact and binary.
Embeds all textures and materials into one single file.
Ensures fast loading and consistency across devices.
Always test your exported file in a GLB viewer (like gltf-viewer.donmccurdy.com) or directly in the VR 4 Life platform (if previewing is available) to make sure everything appears as intended.
