Contributions to Excellence in Teaching
Documentation of artistic excellence in teaching and coaching students reflected by teaching a 3/3 course assignment, creation of a new course and continued appointment to serve as Playwriting minor area coordinator.
- Recipient of the Outstanding Tenured Associate Professor in the College of Arts and Sciences at Howard University - this award emphasizes overall achievements in research, teaching and service.
- Playwriting minor, Carmin Wong won the Wolly Mammoth Women's Voices Monologue Competition. Her monologue was performed at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage. 2/28/18
- Taught 3 classes each semester in the Department of Theatre Arts.
- Created new course "Introduction to Production Dramaturgy". This will be the first time a codified course on dramaturgy will be offered and taught at an HBCU. The course will replace playwriting 3 on the playwriting minor scheme. This change will support the increased numbers of students who have shown an interest in pursuing dramaturgy as a field of study and employment.
- Served as area coordinator of playwriting minor.
- Guided and supported 28 playwriting minor students through ongoing advisement sessions.
- Extended learning beyond the classroom through invited guests working in the professional arena along with student attendance at local theatrical productions followed by analysis and discussion.
