In order to minimize mistakes, our group spent a large portion of the day calculating and diagramming our balsa wood bridge. We drew a scale model of the bridge on our whiteboard and wrote down measurements for every piece we would need to use.
We also received our supplies for our bridge today. It contains 15 pieces of balsa wood, and 6 bundles of long-stripped balsa wood. We then visualized how we would use our materials to build our bridge, and we concluded that we would have enough supplies to do the job. To help us evaluate the correct measurement values for each part of the bridge, we converted the values from bridge designer into reality to help us with this dilemma.Â
After designing the bridge we began building the road. We encountered multiple obstacles as we found we needed to build supports to hold our bridge a foot off the table. Furthermore, we discovered that our bridge was not long enough. We needed to scramble to build and firmly attach an extension to the bridge. We barely made it by the end of the day.
