Before planning out our final design, we first experimented with index cards to see the best possible way to distribute weight. We realized different bridge designs ultimately accomplished the same mission, to distribute weight and forces throughout the bridge as much as possible. However, with our index card design, we had to figure out how to accomplish the same goal by using half as many parts in order to show cost efficiency.
As a group, we finally came up with a bridge concept design that we all agreed would work in the real world. Our concepts graciously balances the compression-to-tension ratio while also demonstrating a jaw-dropping budget at $540,000. During the simulation, weight was also distributed equally, and the bridge was able to maintain a steady weight.
