Teacher Training 2024-25
Application for 2024-2025 teacher training in the Diplomacy Major is now open.
Training is a two-year process. Schools planning to open the Diplomacy major must register for training. We recommend building a staff of 2-3 teachers for the major.
In the registration links below, you should choose one of two locations: North or Center. Courses will begin in the fall and end in June of the following year.
1. Training in the primary subject:
Communication Skills (the primary course)
Communication Skills Bet (PLC for teachers in their first year teaching the major)
Note: Communication Skills Alef will be on a Monday.
Communications Skills Bet will be on a Wednesday.
The syllabus and the location of both courses will be published at the beginning of the school year 2024-25 (תשפ"ה).
2. Training in the extension level courses:
Conflict Management & Resolution
The Performance Task (Conflict B)
Note: Conflict Management & Resolution Alef will be on Sunday afternoons.
The Performance Task Communications Skills Bet will be on Tuesday afternoons.
Both courses will be online, with one f2f session in Conflict Management & Resolution Alef.
Translation Skills Courses - Note: Further information will be given at the beginning of the school year 2024-25 (תשפ"ה).
PLEASE NOTE: we accept teachers even if their school is not committed to opening the major at this point. Teachers are expected to have an excellent command of English and Hebrew/Arabic. We hope to offer:
Translation Skills Alef
Note: Further information will be given at the beginning of the school year 2024-25 (תשפ"ה).
How long is the training?
Each of the subjects taught requires two years of professional development.
Communication Skills (primary subject)
This is a two-year process. In the first year, 1-2 teachers from each school take a course called Communication Skills Aleph. After the first year, the school can open the major. This means that new schools will open the major a year after they begin training (i.e., those training in 2024-25 will open the major in September 2025). In the second year of training, the Communication Skills Bet Professional Learning Community (PLC) guides teachers through reflection on the implementation process and access to the grade 11 and 12 material. Therefore, a teacher can only register for this PLC once they are teaching the major to students.
Schools that run majors over a 3-year period (Grades 10-12) could train teachers only for Communication Skills in the first year of professional development.
Schools that run majors over a 2-year period (Grades 11-12) need to send teachers to be trained both in the primary subject (Communication Skills Alef) and in one of the two extension options (Translation Skills or Conflict Management and Resolution).
