12th Grade Diplomacy Marathon

Twelfth Grade Diplomacy Marathon

The 2020 Diplomacy Marathon was on track to be an even greater success than that of 2019, lined up for two dates at two different locations, including being hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but, again, Covid 19 forced us to rethink. Planned as a full day of active learning in which students review all the skills learned throughout the three years of study in the major, we scaled down to one activity. In small groups, twelfth-grade students from 28 schools met with nine different diplomats from the Israeli Foreign Ministry and from the American Embassy for “Round Table Discussions” on German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s March 12 speech to her nation about taking measures to stem the spread of the coronavirus. Diplomats spoke with and questioned our students on sophisticated concepts and asked them to weigh in with their opinions and ideas. This was Global English at its best!
