In the heart of the capital of Europe, the Free University of Brussels (Université Libre de Bruxelles - ULB) is the second largest university in french-speaking Belgium. It is characterised by its multiculturality as a third of its students and half of its 1,900 doctoral students come from other countries.
ULB's open position vis-à-vis Europe and the world has given rise to 13 Erasmus Mundus programmes and 345 active partnerships with some of the world's leading universities, such as Oxford, Cambridge, Berkeley, Paris 6, Waseda or Beihang, and to the creation of a consortium (the G3) with Geneva and Montreal. Research is an important driving force here: ULB has received four scientific Nobel prizes (out of a total of six awarded to Belgians), including the prize for the Nobel Prize in Physics 2013, a Fields Medal and three Wolf Prizes: these prizes are proof of the long tradition of excellence of the university.
HTW Berlin - University of Applied Sciences (HTW Berlin) is Berlin's largest university of applied sciences. It uses the diversity of its more than 70 degree programmes in the fields of technology, information technology, economics, law, culture and design for networked cooperation. The academic staff at the HTW Berlin contribute their expertise and contacts to more than 150 thematically wide-ranging third-party funded projects each year, which are typically carried out in cooperation with partners from industry. HTW Berlin is one of the few German universities of applied sciences being a full member of the European University Association (EUA). Five major future topics „Renewable Energy – Energy Efficiency“, “Future of Industry and Working Environment”, “Healthy Economy – Life Science”, “Cultural World Heritage” and “Digital Industries – Creative Industries” have defined the research scene at HTW Berlin in recent years.
