Managebac and CAS

CAS is a requirement of IB which consists of creativity, activity, and service. CAS is not formally assessed, but it does require reflections of events which will be completed on managebac. CAS encourages students to explore activities involving creativity, activity, and service, with the goal of showing initiative, demonstrating perserverance, and developing skills involving collaboration, problem solving, and decision making. Though there are expectations for the value or lesson a student acquires from an event, students can participate in a wide variety of events to fufill the CAS requirement. It should also be noted that CAS should not involve events completed for schoolwork.

Examples of CAS include:

Another component of CAS is the CAS project, which requires students to work with at least one other person on a project which will take a minimum of one month to complete. Parallel to CAS, the CAS project should aim to show initiative, demonstrate perserverance, and develop skills including collaboration, problem solving, and decision making.

CAS also involves reflections for the CAS events a student participates in. While there is no set requirement for the number of reflections, hours, or events a student must complete, a student should aim to complete more than forty CAS reflections over the span of two years in the IB programme.
