Laura KilleenTeaching Demo on YouTube Laura grew up dancing at the Burlington Dance Academy in Ontario, where she studied intensively in ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical and musical theatre. While at BDA, she was a member of the competitive dance program and completed the major Cecchetti ballet examinations with distinction. Graduating from Wilfrid Laurier University with a degree in Psychology, Laura was a founding executive member of the Laurier Musical Theatre Club. She held the volunteer position of Choreographer for four years, working on productions of Hair, Fame, Urinetown and Batboy. She recently received her teaching certificate from the Associated Dance Arts for Professional Teachers syllabus and has over ten years of teaching experience. Laura is a dedicated dance educator who loves sharing her passion of the performing arts with all of her students! Sanya Hung
Sanya is committed to educating children through dance, movement and the arts. Trained at Arts Umbrella she is currently completing her BFA in Contemporary Dance at SFU with plans to study for her BEdu to become a school teacher. Trained in contemporary ballet, jazz, flamenco, hip-hop and west African styles, Sanya believes that there is a type of dance or combination of styles for everyone. Sanya has worked in a variety of community centres and volunteered with children since her early youth, most notably with Kids Help Phone and Douglas Park’s RALLY program. One of her favourite moments ‘teaching’ occurred at her SFU Contemporary Arts Field School in Ghana, teaching ‘the funky chicken’ to a group of children when their bus broke down. Sanya believes that dance is a “silent” method of communicating and hopes to continue to spread her love and passion for dance through her future travels.Zoe Read Zoe Read (nee Koeleman) has been dancing for as long as she can remember. After high school, she obtained her BFA in dance at Simon Fraser University. She then choreographed and performed on the Vancouver circuit, 12 Minutes Max, Dancing on the Edge, KISS and other shows at the Cultch, The Dance Centre and at UBC. She also performed in Toronto for fFIDA and studied at the Toronto Dance Theatre. Recently, she has had two children and is teaching at the Langley School of Fine Arts.
Anna Kraulis
Anna grew up in Toronto where she studied dance at Canadian Childrens’ Dance Theatre, visual arts at Etobicoke School of the Arts and obtained her grade 8 examination in piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music. She is passionate about all forms of art and believes strongly in their ability to inspire imagination, dedication and communication in all types of people. She has worked with children of all ages through the Kidsafe project summer program at inner city schools, and is currently finishing her degree in Contemporary Dance at Simon Fraser University. Colleen CassidyColleen Cassidy is joining D'Hercy Dance Company after spending three years at sea as a dancer with Royal Caribbean Cruise lines. Born in Vancouver and growing up in Calgary dance has always played a huge role in her life. She achieved her Advanced 2 ballet through the Royal Academy of Dancing in her final year of High School and has since then had the pleasure of performing in Casino shows and around the world at sea. Currently attending UBC, Colleen is excited to share her passion for dance with all the young dancers.
Heather-Claire NorteyHeather-Claire is a dancer, choreographer, and actor. She has 20 years of dance training and performance experience in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, Lyrical, and Liturgical. She has also trained in basic Ballroom, Latin, and Tap. Heather-Claire graduated from Canterbury High School's Dance Program with distinction and from the University of Ottawa with a B.A. Honours Degree with Specialization in Theatre. She has taken professional dance workshops at the National Arts Centre with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, and Evidence, A Dance Company. She also performed in the Canada Dance Festival at the National Arts Centre in a modern dance piece by Kaeja d’Dance. Heather-Claire has been teaching dance classes, workshops, and choreographing at various recreational facilities, dance studios, and theatre companies. Her choreography credits include: Orleans Young Players’ musical The Kiss, Unicorn Theatre’s Pippin, and Counterpoint Players’ Pirate Jenny’s Circus. Heather-Claire is also an actor who has worked in film, media, and theatre.
Starr MurankoStarr is a professional dancer, teacher and choreographer with over 20 years of experience in a number of forms including ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop and tap. Most recently she has added West African, Afro-Brazilian and traditional First Nations dance to her repertoire. She has trained professionally in Vancouver, San Francisco, LA and Toronto and has performed at numerous venues throughout BC and as far away as the Andes of Peru! She holds a BFA in Dance from SFU¹s School for the Contemporary Arts and has trained at the American Conservatory of Theatre in San Francisco and at the School for Performing Arts at the University of Ghana, West Africa. As a teacher, Starr brings her passion for working with young children to the creative process and combines dance, music and theatre as well as improvisation. She places value in creating and nurturing a supportive environment that fosters personal creativity and exploration through movement. She also believes in the importance of beginning dance training with correct body alignment, with the use of breath and most importantly, with opportunities for fun!
Stephanie Hallett grew up in Toronto and has trained in dance since the age of three. She has danced with Culture Shock, an internationally-renowned hip hop company, and has been teaching hip hop and other dance styles to children for the last six years. Stephanie holds a BA from UBC in Women's and Gender Studies and Urban Studies and is currently working on a Master of Journalism. She is moving to Los Angeles in July, 2010 for an internship with Ms. Magazine. Stephanie loves her work as a dance instructor and will miss her students very much!
Sarah Russell
Sarah started dancing at the age of four, and is currently obtaining her BFA at SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts. She did most of her early training in Visual Arts and Dance at Rosedale Heights School for the Arts in Toronto.
Alisoun Payne
Alisoun has extensive training and performance experience in dance, theater, circus and acrobatics. She has worked with Karen Jamieson Dance Co, Judith Marcus and Les Ballet-Jazz de Montreal and Debra Brown, an original choreographer of Circe de Soleil, in her company called Le Groupe Apogee. She also has worked in film as a movement understudy. Alisoun holds a Life ar/healing art system Core Energetics Teaching Certificate. She holds a Black belt in Tiger Style and also does Aikido, Jujitsu, Wing Chun, Jakata, Tai Chi and Chi Gung. Most of her early training was in theater and then she developed into a movement artist mostly on full scholarships. With all of this ability she brings humility and warmth to her teaching that inspires children to achieve their very best.
Natalie Gan
Natalie Gan did her early training at Moscrop Secondary, where she was coach, captain and choreographer to the extra-curricular Dance Squad. She won Top Dance Student Award in 05 and 06 at Spotlight Dance with whom she won and placed in many Hip hop dance competitions in group and solo categories, as well as the 2005 Spotlight Teen Award for Outstanding Achievement in Hip hop and Jazz. Natalie is currently enrolled in the School of Contemporary Arts at SFU in the Dance and International Studies program. Natalie looks forward to the early August Camps.
