Deuteronomy 34:1-12
The Death of Moses
1 Then Moses climbed Mount Nebo from the plains of Moab to the top of Pisgah, across from Jericho. There the LORD showed him the whole land—from Gilead to Dan, 2 all of Naphtali, the territory of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the western sea,3 the Negev and the whole region from the Valley of Jericho, the City of Palms, as far as Zoar. 4 Then the LORD said to him, "This is the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob when I said, 'I will give it to your descendants.' I have let you see it with your eyes, but you will not cross over into it."
5 And Moses the servant of the LORD died there in Moab, as the LORD had said. 6 He buried him in Moab, in the valley opposite Beth Peor, but to this day no one knows where his grave is. 7 Moses was a hundred and twenty years old when he died, yet his eyes were not weak nor his strength gone. 8 The Israelites grieved for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days, until the time of weeping and mourning was over.
9 Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the LORD had commanded Moses.
10 Since then, no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face, 11 who did all those miraculous signs and wonders the LORD sent him to do in Egypt—to Pharaoh and to all his officials and to his whole land. 12 For no one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel.
God allowed Moses to see the Holy Land before he died...The trip from Egypt to the promised land took forty years...Moses would climb Mount Nebo at the age of 120 year old to see the promised land...Moses eyes were not weak and his strength had not left him...God had allowed Moses to be full of strength and vigor for 120 years...God had rewarded Moses these strengths, because of his service to Him...Moses the servant of the LORD died in the plains of Moab...
God had sent Moses to get His people out of the bondage of the Egyptians, and to deliver them to the land of milk and honey... Moses also wrote the law, and became not only their lawgiver, but also their judge, while him and the people were on their way to Canaan...
Moses' work was now done...God promised and allowed him to see Canaan from the top of the mountain...Moses would lay his hands on Joshua, which was an act of transferring his authority to Joshua, the son of Nun...
The Israeli people grieved for thirty days, until the weeping and mourning was over...Thirty days was the usual time of mourning in that time...Then it was time to move on...Joshua would now lead the people into the promised land...Joshua, like Moses, would also receive wisdom from the LORD...
No prophet in Israel has risen like Moses whom the LORD knew face to face, who did all these miraculous signs and wonders the LORD sent him to do...No major or minor prophet ever performed the mighty power, through the LORD, that Moses did leading the people during the exodus...
God takes care of Moses burial, like He took care of Moses when he was alive...God was with Moses at his death, so it (death)would have had no sting...God did not want the people to know where Moses was buried...This is probably because, Moses and his burial site would become a shrine...God would not want superstition and idolatry around this site...God takes care of us in death, and the death of His servant Moses was precious to our LORD...Moses would be taken to heaven...
Moses was with the Hebrews and God's people for forty years...All of Israel was with him...No one has ever shown the mighty power or performed the awesome deeds that Moses did in the sight of all Israel...
Many years later in the Transfiguration on the sacred mountain, Moses and Elijah meet with Jesus, Peter, John, and James (Matthew 17:3, Mark 9:4, Luke 9:30, 2nd Peter 1:18)...Moses is still alive...God's glory, was shown of the sacred mountain, when God changed Jesus' earthly appearance to His heavenly appearance...Moses was one of those with the Messiah...
