Deuteronomy 10:1-11
Tablets Like the First Ones
1 At that time the Lord said to me, “Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones and come up to me on the mountain. Also make a wooden ark. 2 I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Then you are to put them in the ark.”
3 So I made the ark out of acacia wood and chiseled out two stone tablets like the first ones, and I went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hands. 4 The Lord wrote on these tablets what he had written before, the Ten Commandments he had proclaimed to you on the mountain, out of the fire, on the day of the assembly. And the Lord gave them to me. 5 Then I came back down the mountain and put the tablets in the ark I had made, as the Lord commanded me, and they are there now.
6 (The Israelites traveled from the wells of Bene Jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died and was buried, and Eleazar his son succeeded him as priest. 7 From there they traveled to Gudgodah and on to Jotbathah, a land with streams of water. 8 At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today. 9 That is why the Levites have no share or inheritance among their fellow Israelites; the Lord is their inheritance, as the Lord your God told them.)
10 Now I had stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights, as I did the first time, and the Lord listened to me at this time also. It was not his will to destroy you. 11 “Go,” the Lord said to me, “and lead the people on their way, so that they may enter and possess the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.”
There is Great Importance to the Ten Commandments...And the earlier tablets were destroyed...So, God wanted them to be made again...So the LORD said to Moses cut two stone tablets like the first ones and make a wooden box to put them in...Then come up to Him on the Sacred Mountain, and He would write on those tablets what He had wrote on the tablets that were broken...And then they were to be placed in a box...So Moses made a box of acacia wood and cut two stone tablets like the first ones and took them up the Sacred Mountain...Then the LORD wrote on those tablets the same words that he had written the first time, the Ten Commandments that He gave when He spoke from the fire on the day you were gathered at the Sacred Mountain...The Lord gave Moses the tablets, and he turned and went down the Sacred Mountain...Then, just as the LORD had commanded, he put them in the box that he had made—and they have been there ever since...
The Israelites set out from the wells that belonged to the people of Jaakan, and went to Moserah...There Aaron died and was buried, and his son Eleazar succeeded him as priest...From there they went to Gudgodah and then on to Jotbathah, a well-watered place...At that time the LORD appointed the men of the tribe of Levi to be in charge of the Arc of the Covenant Box, to serve Him as priests, and to pronounce blessings in His Name...And these are still their duties...That is why the tribe of Levi received no land as the other tribes did; what they received was the privilege of being the LORD's priests, as the LORD your God promised.)...Moses stayed on the Sacred Mountain forty days and nights, as he did the first time...The LORD listened to him once more and agreed not to destroy the people...Then God told Moses to lead His people, so that they could take possession of the Promised Land that He had promised to give to your ancestors...
