Ever had the thought in Math Class of, “When will I ever use this?” Any mathematics instructor will agree it is a frequently asked question. This workshop connects natural occurrences in nature, like the Golden Ratio, Pi and Pythagorean Theorem, to everyday math and beyond. Come and exercise your brain and see how math is all around us!

Are you preparing to take the Math portion of the GED? If so, join us for a math review of all the topics and subtopics in a desert nature kind of way. A great way to get ready for test and connect with nature at the same time.

*Anatomy Compare and Contrast: Vertebrae, jaws, and teeth from various species. As we at the DNA continue to collect, we find smaller items that are intriguing like jaws and teeth. The size of one compared to another. The amount of decay or loss. You can learn a lot from an animal through the teeth. What an animal eats, how big it was, what species, all from teeth! Use our Collection to help you learn more about Anatomy Compare and Contrast. Artists! Drawing and sketching is encouraged

*HELP! I just moved to the Desert!
Desert Basics 101:
This fun 1 hour class will give any new transplant a good start in all the Desert Basics. You are going to want to take notes! This talk includes plenty of tips ranging from our infamous “Box of Bad”, “Why is there a rattlesnake by your front door” “Why you should not hand pick desert fruit like prickly pear”, “Why Javelina just destroyed your new garden”, “Why a bobcat is laying by your pool but AZGF will not come get it”, “Why some of us shake out our shoes”, “Why you should carry pliers or a comb or fork on a hike” “Why you turn around when your water supply is down to half” “What a Flat Iron, Siphon Draw or Weavers Needle is” or if you have any business climbing them, and simply learn how to pronounce everything else in between like Ocotillo, Saguaro, or Cholla ! Ask tons of questions! Resources will be provided.

*Intro to Local Native Desert Wildlife
Coyote, Bobcat, Javelina oh my! Discover who or what might be lurking in the desert late at night or simply wandering around in broad daylight! You might be surprised! What is a ringtail? Are there Mountain Lion in Gold Canyon? Have you seen a Cardinal? Spend a fun and informative hour learning about the wild creatures that call this patch of desert home. Artists are highly encouraged to draw or sketch during presentation.

“Bandit” the DNA ambassador Gopher Snake was given to us by Rattlesnake Solutions. She is not to be handled or harassed.
Of the 36 known species of rattlesnakes, Arizona is home to 13! Believe it or not, Rattlesnakes are a vital part of our healthy desert eco system. Learn all about Bandit our Sonoran Gopher Snake and more of the basics of identifying these two very common but VERY different snakes native to Gold Canyon Arizona. DNA Private Lessons, Tours, and Classes Information
The DNA offers a variety of unique, nature-based, STEAM influenced, private, scheduled lessons, classes, and tours. Learn in our exciting and interactive desert inspired space.

Classes or Lessons are entry level for all subjects and are not to be considered part of a graduating curriculum but more of a support system or help learning a specific subject.
For safety, we ask that EACH child under 12 must have an accompanying adult with them while attending at the DNA. Children ages 12-16 need at least one parent or guardian. No drop offs. For larger groups please speak with Stacy for accommodations.

6th Grade reading level is suggested for understanding most if not all of the educational material we provide. We adore your little ones BUT! Comprehension and overall comfort level for everyone attending is why we do not recommend bringing very small children. DNA classes, class sizes, content and environment are currently not set up for toddler or baby safety. No strollers permitted.
