Mission
The mission of the Desert Nature Alliance (dNa) is to support and inspire the preservation and conservation of the local desert wildlife and nature. The dNa is dedicated to sharing, supporting and creating desert-inspired, inquiry-based studies and research, nature-based tactile STEM & STEAM education, animal awareness and observation in a unique, biodiverse desert setting near the Superstition Mountains in Gold Canyon, Arizona.
Observation and Study
High on a hilltop in Gold Canyon sits the original home base of the "dNa" the Desert Nature Alliance. With 360-degree views, we watched the local wildlife come and go throughout the day and night. A true study in biodiversity, the dNa property sees Coyote, Javelina and Bobcat on a fairly regular basis both day and on our night cameras. The birds we see range in sizes from the massive Turkey Vultures soaring above to the tiny Anna's and Costas's Hummingbirds. Reptiles of every kind from Snakes (Western Diamondback, Sonoran Gopher Snake, King Snakes and Coachwhips all seen) to Spiny Lizards call this 3 acre patch of desert their home.
Observation plays a HUGE role in the dNa's foundation and basic mission. By studying, identifying and documenting who lives here, who migrates through, how they are doing and how climate change and human behavior effects them, we can help support the larger efforts to protect and preserve our environment with our findings.
The Alliance believes it truly takes us ALL to save our planet. This is a team event. The keyword is "inclusion". Everyone and anyone can make small changes, imagine greater things, and collectively make a difference! Creativity, flexibility, imagination and desire can spark a world-wide movement for environmental change. We can all help make nature-based learning, growing and exploring our world accessible through any means necessary! Sharing the world around you, what you see, hear, smell, taste, feel and experience changes lives and will change our planet for the better. Consider volunteering with us.
The Desert Nature Alliance was started from a vision by Stacy Osegueda. Born and raised Desert, Stacy has taken her passion and love of nature and animals and combined it with her experiences at the Phoenix Zoo and Superstition Mountain Museum to create an educational, nature lover's support system. She credits her work with the endangered black-footed ferret breeding and release program in Conservation at the PHX Zoo as some of her initial inspiration for the dNa.
Stacy created the dNa, with the help, love and support from her husband, Jay, to establish a foundation for the preservation and conservation of local nature and to provide a site dedicated to discovering, scientific research, nature-based education and awareness and observation, in the unique, desert setting near the Superstition Mountain in Gold Canyon, Arizona.
Established in 2020, the dNa is a science-based non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status, developed to foster an appreciation for and knowledge of the natural wonders of the Sonoran Desert in Gold Canyon, Arizona. The dNa's original home base sits on a hill of a 3-acre property in the foothills of the Superstition Mountains. Our new facility is located at 6268 S Kings Ranch Road Gold Canyon AZ 85118
The dNa is a hub for lifelong learning, discovery and inspiration supported by contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations and community partners.
