Project Description
For this project, I researched two recent cybersecurity incidents that were reported in the news. I summarized each article, reviewed the credibility of the source, and explained what people can do to protect themselves from similar cyber threats.

"Apple Supplier Tata tightens internal controls after data breach, sources say"

Tata Electronics, one of Apple's manufacturing partners, experienced a cybersecurity breach after ransomware uploaded into their main network tried to steal more than 200,000 confidential files. The leaked information reportedly included internal documents and product information related to Apple and other associated companies. This was a ransomware/data breach incident that affected Tata Electronics and possibly its business partners. Companies can reduce the risk of these attacks by using strong security controls, limiting employee access to sensitive information, keeping software updated, and providing cybersecurity awareness training to essential employees.

NAIC Confirms Major Data Breach After Oracle Attack

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) confirmed that hackers gained access to its systems and software, highlighting it's vulnerability. Attackers reportedly stole a large amount of information and then they published it on the dark web. This incident was documented as being a cyberattack that affected insurance regulatory information.
Organizations can help prevent similar attacks by installing security updates quickly, monitoring networks for unusual activity, proper authentication, and also responding more quickly to their known vulnerabilities.

Lessons Learned
Completing CCBC's cybersecurity training and researching these news stories showed me that cyberattacks happen to organizations both large and small as well as government agencies, and they cyberattacks have ramifying effects that spread to other business entities. I learned that cyberattacks and breaches are a continuing and serious threat, but many attacks can probably be prevented by using stronger passwords, using multi-factor authentication, keeping software updated, and being more cautious when opening emails, clicking on attachments that are from unfamiliar sources and their downloading their associated files. This assignment confirmed how important cybersecurity awareness is for both individuals and for businesses alike.
