The Department of Education (DepEd) Open High School Program (OHSP) is an alternative secondary education delivery mode designed to provide flexible learning opportunities for students who cannot attend regular face-to-face classes due to personal, financial, or geographical constraints. It allows learners to study at their own pace using self-directed modules and periodic teacher support, making it ideal for working students, athletes, or those with health or family responsibilities. The program follows the same curriculum standards as the formal high school system but emphasizes independent learning, time management, and responsibility, enabling students to complete their secondary education and earn a diploma recognized by the government.
The Alternative Learning System (ALS) of the Department of Education is a parallel learning system in the Philippines that provides flexible, non-formal education opportunities for out-of-school youth and adults who were unable to complete basic education through the formal school system. It offers programs focused on basic literacy, life skills, and academic knowledge equivalent to elementary and secondary levels, often delivered through community learning centers, mobile teachers, or blended learning approaches. ALS enables learners to study at their own pace and prepares them to pass the Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) Test, which can grant certifications comparable to formal school diplomas, helping them pursue higher education, vocational training, or employment.
