Mactan Senior High School is a public institution categorically belong as large school offering Senior High School education under the Department of Education’s K to 12 Program. As of School Year 2025–2026, the school caters to approximately 936 students across Grade 11 and Grade 12 levels. The school offers four academic strands—ABM, HUMSS and STEM —and selected Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) specializations. With a teaching force of 49 teachers and 2 non-teaching personnel teams, the school continues to meet the increasing demand for quality senior high education in Lapu-Lapu City.

Mactan Senior High School is in Mactan, Lapu-Lapu City is one of the fastest-developing areas in Cebu province. Its location makes it highly accessible to both coastal and inner barangays. The school sits near major roads, economic zones, and transportation terminals, allowing students to travel conveniently from nearby areas. Its position near the Mactan-Cebu International Airport and several hotels, resorts, and manufacturing hubs situates it within a dynamic, semi-urban learning environment.

The school’s catchment area includes several surrounding barangays such as Bankal, Buaya, Maribago, Pajac, Pusok, and Agus. These communities represent both residential and economic zones, contributing to the school's diverse student population. Most enrollees are graduates of nearby public junior high schools such as Pusok National High School, Bankal National High School, Marigondon National High School, and other private schools. This wide catchment coverage demonstrates the school’s central role in the SHS transition within Mactan Island.

Mactan Senior High School continues to foster a safe and inclusive learning environment, despite limitations in infrastructure and resources. Classrooms are generally functional, but growing enrollment strains the school’s physical capacity. There is a lack of good condition science and tvl laboratories, specialized tvl equipment, and green open spaces. Nevertheless, the school remains focused on creating a positive school culture through organized student activities, guidance character formation programs, and a responsive school leadership.

The school’s surrounding communities are largely composed of working-class families. Many parents are employed in tourism, hotel and restaurant services, construction, factory work in MEPZ, and transportation. However, many of these jobs are contractual or seasonal in nature, leading to inconsistent household incomes. Some learners are also forced to work part-time or assist in family businesses, impacting their academic engagement.

Aside from economic instability, some of the immediate communities’ face issues such as overcrowding, poor housing conditions, and limited access to health and social services. These factors affect student attendance, punctuality, and overall well-being. Substance abuse, early relationships, and digital distractions also contribute to learner vulnerabilities. These community-based challenges reflect the need for stronger school-community interventions, including values formation, health programs, and enhanced guidance and counseling services.

Despite the challenges, Mactan Senior High School benefits from a network of supportive partners. The school maintains strong linkages with the city government offices, barangay councils, local businesses, and non-government organizations (NGOs). It also receives support from industries in the Mactan Economic Zone, Mactan Newtown business areas, which serve as partners for Work Immersion programs.
