Delnor is committed to advancing health equity by fostering a workforce and resident community that reflects and serves the diverse populations in our region. We believe that an inclusive environment—where varied lived experiences and perspectives are valued—strengthens our ability to deliver equitable, compassionate care.
Residents play an important part in the development of culture, providing monthly opportunities that create a safe, respectful space for discussion.
We recognize a deeply seeded and prominent culture of oppression, racism, discrimination, and inequality. This culture exists not only in medicine, but also throughout our nation, negatively impacting vulnerable and historically disadvantaged communities.
Our “Equity For All" committee was created with the aim of dismantling this culture. It allows our program to have meaningful and respectful conversations regarding racism, inequity, oppression, and privilege. It cultivates an environment of purposeful learning, engaging exploration and deeper understanding. Our goal is to be part of the solution and not exacerbate the problem.
Residency is a time of rapid growth and development, but it can also be a time of stress. Wellness of both mind and body are a priority at Delnor. Our resident-led wellness committee plans both wellness/social activities as well as helps guide resident learning by providing feedback about programmatic experiences. Wellness at Delnor also includes Balint group as well as other integrated medicine topics.
The Wellness Committee plans activities for the program and a Friday retreat day during winter intercession! Significant others/families are often invited, too. We've done things like painting, charades, and outings to Top Golf and a local apple orchard.
There's also frequent unofficial gatherings, like dinner and/or dessert after Thursday didactics at one of the many local restaurants, holiday celebrations, and activities/events in Chicago. There's a lot of things to do in the area, and even more if you want to go to the city!
