Delaware Winds began in 2017 when Dr. Jordan Kinsey, the group's first Artistic Director & Conductor, decided to create a group dedicated to bringing performance excellence to Delaware. The group was put together consisting mostly of current and retired music educators from the surrounding area, professional freelance musicians & studio teachers, auditioned college age musicians and prospective future music educators. The ensemble has been primarily housed for rehearsals and performances in school venues located in and around Dover, Delaware.
The ensemble performs some of the finest selections of wind band literature as well as explores new and diverse works from underrepresented composers. In the Fall of 2019, we were invited to perform at the New Jersey Music Educators Association Conference. Post-Pandemic lockdown, Delaware Winds took back the stage in the Fall of 2021 with one of our most taxing performances for easily our largest audience to date. In 2022, we were excited to expand our performance opportunities for the Fall cycle into New Castle County and in the Spring of 2023 into Sussex County. Following our 2023 Spring Cycle, DE Winds will now hold 2 concerts each cycle, rotating between New Castle County in the Fall and Sussex County in the Spring, always with a Kent County performance.
Through our growth, Delaware Winds has been committed to creating a safe, supportive and creative outlet space for our members while bringing high quality performances to the Delaware region and our supportive audiences. Delaware Winds is a registered non-profit 501 (c) (3).
