Master of Fine Arts Program in Jewelry Design

The aim of this program is to develop jewelry designers with advanced skills and knowledge. In order to succeed in the jewelry profession, it's crucial to be aware of the environment, local community and society, and to have a strong sense of professional ethics. Students will be trained to conduct research, create academic materials, and produce innovative and creative works of jewelry.

Graduates are prepared to become professional jewelry designers, artists, and creative practitioners, as well as researchers and entrepreneurs in the global creative industries.

Study Plan

This two-year program, Plan 1 (Academic Track, Type A2), requires a total of no less than 36 credits.
Year 1: focuses on building a strong theoretical and methodological foundation for creative research and sustainable design. Students take core courses such as Research, Creativity, Innovation, and Aesthetics to understand research methodologies, and Driving Design for Sustainable Development to explore sustainable principles. The first year also includes foundational skill-building courses (non-credit) like Essential Jewelry Making and Essential Jewelry Design for students needing to develop basic techniques.
Year 2: the focus shifts to advanced conceptual development and the thesis project. Students take Exploratory Wisdom to engage in cultural fieldwork and critical analysis. They also select elective courses to deepen their expertise in areas such as Green Jewelry or Disruptive Technology in Design. The program culminates with the Thesis, a 12-credit creative research project where students develop a final body of work and present their findings.

Admissions

Admission is managed directly by the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University. Applicants are evaluated based on their academic background, portfolio, and interview.

The Faculty places strong emphasis on the portfolio, which is the primary component in the selection process. Applicants are expected to demonstrate advanced creativity, craftsmanship, and the ability to develop original and concept-driven work.
